Hernando Guerra met with the Executive for the project to advance the elections

The Chairman of the Constitution Commission, met this Tuesday, January 31, with the head of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, an hour before the Congress of the Republic resumes the debate on the substitute text of the bill proposed by the to October of this year.

In company with Congressmen Lady Camones and Alejandro Cavero, Guerra García remained in a meeting for almost an hour within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

“We all know that the President of the Republic made a proposal a few days ago, we want to finish understanding it to contrast it with all the other proposals that the parties have made to us these days. In these proposals there are points of disagreement and issues on which it is difficult to agree,” said Guerra.

Along these lines, he added that they are still in “full conversations” to reach a consensus and does not provide further details so as not to appear that they “incline towards one position or another”, despite the fact that the session of Congress will begin at 4 in the afternoon. .

POINTS OF CONSENSUS

Guerra García explained that there are certain points of consensus that have been reached with some colleagues, but so far nothing has been decided: “one has been able to talk about something and the other has listened to it.”

“It is not an easy decision to make for different positions and we are working continuously,” said the parliamentarian before the press and asked for “understanding.”

What happens if the advancement of elections project is approved?

The project that is presented must be debated by the full parliament and its eventual approval requires the support of 87 of the 130 congressmen that make up the Peruvian chamber.

If approved, the opinion must be submitted to a vote again in the next legislature, as it is a constitutional reform.

On behalf of the Executive, Otárola declared on Monday that the Government of Dina Boluarte is “waiting for the decision of Congress” and they are “sure that there will be a way out” of the political and social crisis that has been shaking the country since December.

President Boluarte announced on Sunday that if Parliament does not approve the early general elections, it will immediately send two projects so that the elections can be held anyway this year and for the total reform of the 1993 Constitution by the next legislature.
