Hernaldo Zúñiga: Ortega's repression against Nicaraguans "generates a lot of pain and anger"

Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Hernaldo Zúñiga expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims of the repression perpetrated by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who have screwed themselves to power by prescribing “prison, exile or death” in Nicaragua for anyone who is in his against.

In an interview for channel 51 of the Telemundo network, Zúñiga indicated that the human rights violations that the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship has carried out against the Nicaraguan people “is a fracture that generates a lot of pain and anger.”

Likewise, the singer from Masaya lamented that thousands of Nicaraguans have had to flee their country due to the repression and the economic crisis that prevails in Nicaragua.

“Our talents, so many people of value who have left Nicaragua (hopefully) can return to build the country that we all deserve,” said the artist.

In addition, Hernaldo Zúñiga stated that, like many Nicaraguans, he keeps alive the hope of returning to a free and democratic Nicaragua.

«I have a lot of faith, and it is not a naive faith, that Nicaragua promptly, due to the wear and tear of things, of the processes; it is going to rethink itself as a country », she stressed.

Since 2018, Nicaragua has been experiencing a sociopolitical crisis that is getting longer every day. The repression exerted by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship during the social protests in 2018 left at least 355 dead, according to data from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

Faced with this situation of repression and threats, thousands of Nicaraguans have chosen to flee the country and go into exile. Currently, the Ortega regime maintains more than 200 political prisoners in different prisons, where, according to relatives, they are subjected to torture, isolation, food restrictions and permanent interrogations, although all have already been sentenced.
