Santo Domingo. – With the delivery of blood and blood products, the National Hemocenter of the Ministry of Public Health reported that, in four years of operation, it has guaranteed 242 million 134 thousand pesos in savings for families in vulnerable situations.
In a press release, the entity indicated that only this year it delivered 32,806 packets of red blood cells, plasma and platelets at no cost, which, as indicated, benefited thousands of families lacking the resources to acquire these essential components in private blood banks.
Likewise, he highlighted that until November more than 50,586 units of red blood cells, plasma and plateletsrepresenting a significant increase compared to the previous three years.
“Reaching that amount in the production of blood products was possible thanks to the collection of 38,437 pints of blood in conferences held at the national level,” explained the general director of the National Hemocenter, Dr. Pedro Sing Ureña.
In this sense, it advanced the strengthening of strategic efforts through new actions and projects to enhance the spontaneous, free and repetitive donationwith the aim of ensuring that blood and its components are available in a timely manner to people in need.

Regarding the awareness campaign for donation, the Minister of Health, Victor Elias Atallahhe announced that he will try integrate all ministries of the Statedonor testimonials to win over others now prominent personalities in art, sports and communication
“What we are trying to do with this campaign is increase spontaneous donation and permanent so that the patient does not wait for the blood but rather the blood waits for the patient,” he pointed out.
Regarding the Law of Blood, Dr. Sing defined it as an essential regulation to strengthen the national strategyexpedite collection and delivery, and guarantee greater efficiency in timely attention to demand at the national level.
He explained that there are at least a dozen legislative projects on the matter, so he suggested select the most positive points of each initiative to achieve a law that meets the regulatory needs on blood in the Dominican Republic.
To donate, you only need to have between 18 and 65 years old. Men can do it four times a year and the women even thrice.

In that sense, he anticipated that the 2026 will be a very positive year for the Dominican Republic, with the opening of blood donation centers in hospital settingsthanks to the collaborative effort of the provincial and municipal health directorates.
