The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, summoned all the political parties with parliamentary representation to put together a “Comprehensive and Preventive Security Program”consists of the invitation letter to which you agreed The Observer.
Heber asks that each party designate a representative with a technical profile to participate in a meeting preliminary that will be held on December 19.
The meeting will be moderated by the coordinator of Targeted Strategies for Police Crime Prevention, Diego Sanjurjo. It is an invitation “with the understanding that public security agencies control crime, but its significant and sustainable reduction requires the interaction and cooperation of other actors who work on their causes,” says the ministry.
He adds that the main objective is the “crime prevention through the operational collaboration of different State agencies”, according to the document.
In 2016, when Tabaré Vázquez was president of the Republic for the Broad Front, he had also called dialogue meetings with political parties. He did it despite differences, but later he would end the match due to internal differences. The announcement came after the claim of the nationalists, who had warned earlier that they would no longer go to the commission.
“I am deeply grateful to the political parties, this is an example for the world,” the president told the press at the end of the meeting. “Perhaps it will be useful for the future and this exchange will be used by other governments. We maintained the inalienable commitment to work for the Uruguayans,” he said.
Vázquez listed the projects that came out with the agreement of the majority of the parties to Parliament for their treatment. Among them the one that put into force the new criminal procedure code; the situation of micro-drug trafficking; early releases; statute of prosecutors; and special homicides.
