The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heberreferred to the case of the senator of the National Party Gustavo Penadeswho has been publicly accused of sexually exploiting a party member when she was a minor.
Heber assured that the “guarantees of due process” will be given in this case and that the Police will provide support to what the prosecutor in charge, Alicia Ghione, has.
The minister, who had been questioned for his first public exposure on the caseaffirmed that it is important to respect the judicial process and that comments that could hinder or divert attention from what has to be proven will not be made.
In addition, he pointed out that the situation must be resolved through Justice and that the senator has already appeared before it.
What is the possible lawlessness of Penadés
As regards the possible request for impeachment of Senator Penadés, the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, stated that the National Party dealt with this issue internally and that they will seek to provide guarantees to all parties involved. Delgado also highlighted the actions of the ex officio Justice, which gives guarantees to all parties.
The case has generated controversy in public opinion, arousing criticism from the opposition and from Romina Celeste herself, the nationalist militant who has denounced the senator.
The situation is in the hands of Justice, and it will be this that determines the veracity of the accusations and the corresponding legal consequences.
