The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, highlighted this Friday at a press conference the work of the Scientific Police in the case of the murder of Lola Chomnalez and assured that the Uruguayan justice system “did not give up.”
“We do not give up in the face of crimes of this nature, in the face of any crime, but above all in the face of crimes of this nature,” he assured at a press conference with the judge and the prosecutor in the case.
The minister assured that at some point “it was thought that the justice system had abandoned the case” and, according to the minister, “not only was this not the case, but a formidable job was done.”
“The system works, unfortunately it takes time because the tests have to be obtained and they were obtained,” he added.
Then he gave way to the legal judge of Rocha, Juan Manuel Giménez, who this Thursday prosecuted a 39-year-old man for the crime of Lola Chomnalez in 2014. It was for the crime of very especially aggravated homicide.
Giménez stressed that the case file has more than 3,600 pages, which means that “there was always a police officer, a judge or a prosecutor looking for an answer or a line of investigation” and that finally, it came from science.
“That line of investigation brought us to today’s result. Through the genetic material we can locate a person who is the one who deposited his genetic material -excuse the redundancy-, at the scene; in the towel that was inside the backpack Lola was carrying the day she died and on her Argentine National Identification Document”.
