The Director of Civil Protection Mérida, Luis Lobo Sibolí, reported that in the Jacinto Plaza parish, La Trinidad street in the Libertador municipality of Mérida state, an emergency was registered as a result of the flooding of the La Astillera river, causing the total loss of four homes.

It was learned that security personnel reported that more than 25 houses were evicted as a precaution.

“Immediately, the Civil Protection and Fire Department officials of the state moved to the place for the evaluations, at the same time that the road in this sector was lost,” he said.

An edge fault was also recorded on the Chamita main road, near the Chamita link bridge with El Galerón, El Morro, Los Nevados and Aricagua.

Lobo Sibolí indicated that the flooding of the river also affected the roadway of this sector, which registered faults on the edge of the main street of the La Astillera sector, La Trinidad street, as well as affecting crops and sewage.

He specified that to avoid risk, the area was cordoned off in order to safeguard the lives of passers-by, “since it is a very populous sector and there are many families that must protect their physical integrity,” he said.
