Heavy rains have left some 25 houses flooded in eight neighborhoods of Managua

The heavy rains recorded in the last hours in the national territory, due to the passage of the first tropical wave, have caused flooding in at least 25 homes in eight neighborhoods of the fourth district of Managua, as well as overflowing riverbeds and flooding on the main roads. of the capital, reported the secretary general of the Mayor’s Office of Managua, Fidel Moreno.

During a tour that Moreno made this Thursday afternoon through the affected neighborhoods in the capital, he reported that on average about 50 millimeters of water fell in Managua alone, although he highlighted that in the Dorado area —which was one of the places with the greatest affectation—, the level reached 90 millimeters.

“It rained for us the first time for more or less 40 minutes, very hard. The measurement systems that we have installed in the city of Managua reported in this area, very close to the eastern riverbed, about 90 millimeters, the average for the city was close to 50 millimeters, but logically the main effects were concentrated in this area. ”, indicated the public official.

Moreno justified that these runoffs are mainly the product of excess garbage accumulated in obsolete storm drains, but he did not mention that this problem has persisted every year, due to the lack of investment in the drainage system.

“The eastern channel overflowed, the water went over it and we still see the amount of garbage that the cause drags, a large part of the causes of overflow has to do with garbage, which obstructs many drainage areas and that causes us some floods”, highlighted the public official.

The secretary of the commune mentioned that the flooding in the 25 homes occurred in the neighborhoods of district four, including Pedro Aráuz Palacios, San Luis, El Edén, María Auxiliadora and Ducuali.

“Thank God we only have 25 houses with flooding, we are immediately attending with blankets, there are two houses with semi-damaged roofs and we will still accompany with the repair. We also had some floods always in this area at the Solidaridad, Migración hospital, as a result of the overflow of the riverbeds,” Moreno explained.

He added that the overflow of the riverbed, which occurred for approximately 20 minutes, caused some areas of the Oriental market to also be affected, where the water level reached 40 centimeters.

The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) reported that the country will remain influenced until the weekend by precipitation caused by the passage of a tropical wave and by humidity from the Pacific Ocean.

“We already have the first tropical wave along the Nicaraguan Caribbean coast and as of today (Thursday) this tropical wave will enter the national territory, anticipating that late tonight and very early on Friday It will be coming out of the Nicaraguan Pacific coast,” said Ineter’s director of meteorology, Marcio Baca.
