Heavy rains cause flooding in Havana

The heavy rains that occurred this Tuesday in Havana caused flooding in various areas of the city, according to various sources.

Press outlets and users on social networks have echoed what happened after the storm that broke out in the afternoon in the Cuban capital.

In particular, flooding was high in the Cuatro Caminos area and the vicinity of Manglar street, a place where these events are frequent as a consequence of storms and intense rainfall.

According to the Cuban Firefighters Facebook profile, forces of this body participated in rescue actions in the Cuban capital due to flooding.

They also carried out work to rescue people after the collapse of part of a building in Central Havana, presumably as a consequence of the intense rainfall, according to unofficial sources.

The rains spread throughout the island, and made their intensity felt in a special way in the afternoon hours in western Cuba, as a special notice from the Institute of Meteorology had already alerted.

These precipitations “are the result of a line of storms associated with the trough that is located over the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico,” accurate the official site cubadebate.

According to the forecasts, said trough would continue to move to the east and would continue to move slowly in the vicinity of the western region of Cuba, at least until early this Wednesday morning.

This system, “in combination with the strong heating of the day and high humidity content”, generates a “strong instability with a deterioration of the meteorological conditions”.

For this reason, the areas of showers, rains and electrical storms over the west are increasing, which in turn can cause strong and intense rains in some locations, the specialists specified.

These conditions may also cause rain this Wednesday. Rainfall is also expected in other regions of the country.
