San José de Ocoa. – The persistent rains that fell due to the incidence of Hurricane Melissacaused floods in several sectors of the province, leaving in their wake material damage and concern among the inhabitants.
The municipality of Long Savannah was one of the most impacted, where the Overflowing ravines and streams flooded homes and entire streets, generating moments of fear among the families who were seen forced to evacuate.
Other affected communities include San Rafael, San Antonio, San Luis and La Hormawhere downpours devastated crops and caused landslides.
In total, about 40 homes They present considerable damage, according to preliminary reports from relief agencies.

Residents explained that the rainfall continued for more than 15 consecutive hoursproduct of the hurricane remnants, which generated flash floods in the rivers and streams that cross the area.
Given the magnitude of the damage, the senator of the province, Aneudy Ortizrequested President Luis Abinader and the authorities to declare the province in a state of alert, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
“We must protect our Ocoeño families. The situation is alarming and we urgently need the intervention of the Dominican Government. We cannot wait any longer; every hour counts to guarantee the safety and well-being of our people,” said Senator Aneudy Ortiz.
The legislator reiterated that the immediate priority is to safeguard the lives of citizens and restore the basic conditions of the most affected communities, for which he urged the competent institutions to act quickly and unity.

Likewise, the senator highlighted that all provincial authorities remain united in the face of the emergency.
“We are working in a coordinated manner with our governor Josefa Oliva Castillo, the Prevention, Mitigation and Response Committee (PMR), and accompanying each mayor and district board director to address the needs of each community. United, we are firm and committed to the well-being of the people of Ocoeño”said Ortiz.
