Heavy rains cause destruction in Piura

Intense rains in the Sierra de Piura have been generating serious damage to dozens of families, mainly, the closure of roads between where access has been interrupted by the poor state of the road. The same happens in the province of Ayabaca. The Senamhi warned that the rains will continue in the Sierra de Piura.

Serious damage are leaving heavy rains in the Sierra de Piura. The Canchaque-Huancabamba road has been closed by the poor condition and probable landslides. In addition, in the Calangla-Pusuqui town center, San Miguel el Faique district, in Huancabamba, heavy rains have caused landslides, also interrupting the vehicle pass. Yesterday afternoon, the rains continued and the population fears new landslides, which could cause dozens of hamlets to be isolated. Meanwhile, the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) Piura reported that until yesterday February 13, a total of 65 families have been affected by strong rainfall in the Piura Sierra. In addition, there are 1,799 affected families, 3 housing destroyed, 21 uninhabitable, 772 affected homes and an affected temple.

According to the COER report, 63 affected families and 40 affected homes were reported in the district of Ayabac Affected temple.

In Pacaipampa there are 2 victims, 2 affected, 1 inhabitable housing and 1 affected housing.

In the province of Huancabamba there were damages in the district of the same name with 38 victims and 148 affected. As well as a housing destroyed, 16 uninhabitable and 83 affected houses. In Huarmaca, heavy rains have left 466 affected families and 179 affected homes.

The Sondorillo district reported a affected family, 69 affected, an uninhabitable home and 18 affected homes.

The civil defense manager of the Municipality of Huancabamba, Alex Neira, informed that they continue to prepare the reports in order to support all families that have suffered damage as a result of the rains in recent days.

He also said they have opted for the closure of the road between court and Huancabamba in order to avoid accidents, because the road is in poor condition. He added that there is already machinery doing cleaning in the area. Until yesterday afternoon, the blockade of the road continued, so he urged drivers respecting measures to avoid accidents.

Precipitation has also caused damage to the Chalaco district (Morropón), where 709 families were affected and 318 affected homes, according to the COER report.
