The Rio de Janeiro City Hall Operations Center triggered the attention stage at 7:45 pm this Thursday (30) due to the record of heavy rain that hit the Grande Méier region, which includes 19 neighborhoods in the northern part of the city. A precipitation of 45.8 millimeters was recorded in a 30-minute interval.
Other locations in the Rio de Janeiro capital should register storms later this night. According to municipal monitoring, rain nuclei are already operating in the north and central zone, causing heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and gusts of wind.
The attention stage is the third level on a scale of five and means that one or more occurrences already impact the municipality, affecting the routine of part of the population. According to the recommendation of the city hall, areas subject to flooding or landslides should be avoided and drivers should not force the passage of vehicles in flooded areas. Residents who notice signs of cracks in their residence should call the Civil Defense by calling 199.
It is also important to pay attention to the sound alerts installed in risk areas. “The activation of the sirens indicates the danger of landslides. People must move to the support points established by the Civil Defense. The locations are informed by the number 199 or by the COR.Rio application”, informs the city hall. Until 8 pm, 42 sirens were triggered in 22 communities.
