With temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celcius (ºC), the city of São Paulo will resume Operation High Temperatures from this Wednesday (22), with actions to distribute water, juices and fruits to the vulnerable population, in tents set up in high traffic areas.
According to the municipality, it announced that socio-educational counselors from the Specialized Social Approach Service (SEAS) will provide assistance in the tents and will actively search the city’s streets, to offer reception in social assistance network equipment to anyone who needs it.
The program also provides assistance with guidance for pet owners on how to pay attention to the situation of their animals.
The ten tents will be distributed in points of high circulation of homeless people, at the addresses below:
Central Region – Praça da República and Praça Marechal Deodoro;
South Region – Santo Amaro (Praça Floriano Peixoto x Rua Paulo Eiró) and Capela do Socorro (Praça José Boemer Roschel);
North Region – Santana (Heróis da FEB Square) and Vila Maria (Novo Mundo Square)
Eastern Region – Itaquera (Av. Musgo de Flor x Avenida Imperador) and Mooca (Praça Cid José da Silva Campanella);
West Region – Lapa (Rua do Curtume, s/nº – corner with Guaicurus)
Heat
The city of São Paulo has recorded temperatures above 30 degrees since the weekend. Earlier this evening, the São Paulo City Hall Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE-SP) recorded an average temperature above 28 degrees. According to the agency, since this Monday the city has maintained a state of alert for high temperatures. Between the 18th and 20th, the temperature reached 33.1º, and the recorded average was 32.1ºC.
The National Institute of Meteorology’s forecast is for an increase in temperature in the capital of São Paulo, with peaks at 34ºC.
State
The state Civil Defense recorded a temperature of around 38ºC in Santos, on the south coast. The entire state has a warning in place for high temperatures and intense winds this morning and for Wednesday and Thursday, with the possibility of heavy rain. The agency recommends paying attention to your health, with care such as constant hydration throughout the day and avoiding direct exposure to the sun between 10am and 4pm. “Try to stay in shady and ventilated places, avoid intense physical activity during the hottest times of the day. Try to have a light diet, choosing fresh foods, such as fruits, salads and those with a high water content. Pay extra attention with children and the elderly, as they are more vulnerable to heat”, says the note.
