The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (inumet) issued this Sunday afternoon a double yellow and orange warning for the south of the country by “strong storms and heavy rains”.
According to the agency’s statement, a cold front enters the countrywhich generates storms “some punctually strong and/or severe”.
“It should be noted that in stormy areas it will be possible to register intense rains in short periods, occasional hail, intense electrical activity and strong gusts of wind”adds the Inumet warning.
Specifically, the affected localities are the following:
Orange alert
cannelloni: Aguas Corrientes, Barra de Carrasco, Barros Blancos, Camino del Andaluz and Route 84, Canelones, Ciudad de la Costa, Colonia Nicolich, El Pinar, Empalme Olmos, Joaquín Suárez, Juanicó, La Paz, Las Piedras, Los Cerrillos, Neptunia, Pando, Paso Carrasco, Progreso, Route 74, San Antonio, San Bautista, San Jacinto, San Ramón, Santa Lucía, Santa Rosa, Sauce, Toledo, Villa Aeroparque, Villa Crespo and San Andrés, Villa Felicidad and Villa San José.
Cologne: Colonia Valdense, Juan Lacaze, La Paz, Los Pinos, Nueva Helvecia, Rosario and Santa Ana.
Florida: August 25, May 25, Cardal, Florida, Independencia, Mendoza and Mendoza Chico.
Montevideo: the entire department.
Saint Joseph: Capurro, Ciudad del Plata, Ecilda Paullier, Juan Soler, Kiyú-Ordeig, Libertad, Mal Abrigo, Puntas de Valdez, Rafael Perazza, Rodríguez, San José de Mayo and Villa María.

maldonado: Bella Vista, Cerros Azules, Gregorio Aznárez, Las Flores, Playa Grande, Playa Hermosa, Playa Verde and Pueblo Solís.
Inumet notified that it will continue to monitor the situation and will report any changes.
