LIMA, Peru – After spending 40 days on hunger strike, political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso is showing a favorable recovery, according to his wife Mailín Rodríguez Sánchez on Facebook.
through from a publication The day before, the wife updated on the health status of García Caso, who five days ago ended his strike and currently remains hospitalized in intermediate therapy at the Lucía Iñiguez Landín Surgical Clinic in Holguín.
“He is recovering, hydrating himself with serums, vitamins and medications to restore his stomach and organs,” wrote Rodríguez Sánchez.
The publication also details that the political prisoner is feeding and improving little by little “Thanks to God and all the prayers. His family is enormously grateful,” adds the wife.
García Caso began the strike after more than four years in prison for participating in the demonstrations of July 11, 2021 (11J) in Holguín, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. His sentence was among the highest of the more than 1,000 people prosecuted for 9/11 in the country.
Last Tuesday, the young political prisoner finished their protest action. The decision, the wife explains to Cubanettook it after the authorities agreed to one of his requests: to send him to an isolation cell in prison. “He has been very sad and overwhelmed by the unjust imprisonment. If they did not give him freedom, he at least wanted to be isolated from the terrible prison environment,” he declared.
The previous weekend, before ending the strike, Rodríguez Sánchez was able to see him and described him as “conscious, but very weak.” Likewise, he commented that he remained guarded at all times by State Security officials and handcuffed to bed with a handcuff and a chain on one of his feet.
This Monday, García Caso’s three children were also able to visit him and, according to the mother, it was “a very sad but encouraging meeting,” and they had already removed his chain.
