Health Minister rules out restrictions

Agencia IP.- The Minister of Health, Julio Borba, indicated that the current increase in cases of Covid-19 at the country level should be an alarm signal to maintain care and basic prevention measures.

Similarly, the head of the health portfolio ruled out any return to restrictions.

Borba indicated that the population already has information on how to live with the Covid-19 virus and preventive tasks to reduce infections.

In this sense, he urged the population to use face masks in closed spaces, such as public transport, and if respiratory symptoms occur. This must be added to frequent hand washing, ventilation of spaces and vaccination against Covid-19 and influenza.

The latest projections indicate an increase in cases of Covid-19 and influenza viruses for the month of July. This peak of infections will be less serious than other waves of infections; however, there is a risk of contracting severe forms, especially among the unvaccinated population, he said.

In the weekly epidemiological update, the director of the EPI, Héctor Castro, reported that 51% of the population has two doses against Covid-19, which is key to avoiding serious forms.

This means that about 50% of the population is at risk of contracting severe forms of the respiratory disease.

In this regard, vaccination against Covid-19 and influenza continues and there are sufficient doses available. Minister Borba reported that there is a batch of vaccines to expire as of July, which is a luxury that the country cannot afford.

As for supplies, the head of the Ministry stated that there is a sufficient stock of medicines for respiratory infections, which are being distributed to medical services throughout the country.
