Health emergency extended in Colombia

Health emergency extended in Colombia

The declaration of emergency for the covid-19 remained in force until November 30, however, The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has decided -through Resolution 1913 of 2021- to extend until February 28, 2022 the health emergency throughout the national territory.

(Colombia would extend the health emergency due to covid-19).

With this extension of the state of health emergency, the entity encourages the maintenance and compliance of the biosecurity measures that have been formulated during the health emergency declared on March 12, 2020.

In Colombia, an increase in positive cases for coronavirus has been reported, not to mention that a significant number of confirmed cases have been identified
of the delta variant, a situation that represents a challenge for the country, because it is considered a strain with a potential increase in transmissibility, capable of generating harmful changes in the epidemiology of the virus in the country.

The Ministry of Health is also aware that the increase in positive cases due to covid-19 could trigger an increase in virulence or change in the clinical presentation of the disease, as well as a decrease in the effectiveness of social and public health measures.

For this reason, in the face of risk situations that the country is going through, which must be addressed with specific measures, it was resolved that it was necessary to extend the
health emergency and maintain the conditions that have been issued for prevention and self-care.

(Public services adapted to the reality imposed by teleworking).

This decision was made based on the following premises that contemplates the extension of the emergency declaration:

Throughout the covid-19 pandemic, Colombia has presented three moments or milestones for its management and control: the first, related to the need to generate response capacity in the health system and the network of laboratories for event surveillance; the second, related to the application of biosafety measures, with the issuance of the different protocols issued by this Ministry, for the development of the different activities that could be carried out in accordance with the isolation measures that have been adopted by the national government. ; and the third, related to the beginning of the gradual and progressive reactivation of the activities of the economic, cultural and social sectors.

Although it is not possible to calculate or determine exactly how the pandemic will progress, predictive analytics provides different models that help build hypothetical baseline scenarios for decision-making, which allow us to calculate available observational data to fit these models. and make decisions that allow its control in matters of public health.

On the other hand, national and international academic institutions, such as the National Institute of Health, They have developed different alternatives that aim to describe the progression of positive cases for COVID-19, their classification and progress.

Situation that has managed to show that in the course of the pandemic, three large contagion curves have been created at the national level: the first, observed in the months of September and October 2020; the second, between December 2020 and January 2021, and the third, between March and April 2021, highlighting that, in the latter, there was a greater acceleration of contagion compared to the previous two.

However, in recent weeks there has been a significant increase in the number of confirmed cases of covid-19, as well as a percentage of positivity above 10% in some regions of the country such as: San Andrés y Providencia, Cúcuta, Santa Marta, La Guajira, Arauca, Putumayo, Barranquilla and Antioquia.

Hence, it is essential to monitor the National Vaccination Plan, which has been advancing according to the established goals, and is currently in stage five. It should be remembered that no vaccine is 100% effective in preventing contagion, so it is necessary to maintain biosecurity measures even in vaccinated people.
