Brasilia homes, until next Thursday (31), the Global Conference on Climate and Health, focusing on the construction of sector adaptation policies amid the effects of climate change. During the opening session of the meeting, on Tuesday (29), the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, defended “mobilization for transformation”.
“We need to make a real joint effort. This collective effort is essential, because no person or country alone can promote the necessary transformations. Therefore, mobilization of the whole society and all nations is fundamental to coordinate and lead this task force,” he said.
In a statement, the folder pointed out that the actions are aligned with the Belém Health Action Plan, a proposal to be presented by the Brazilian government during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in November.
“Designed to be a global reference, the plan seeks to lead climatic health impact actions on health, highlighting extreme events, strengthening early warning systems and implementing adaptation strategies in territories,” said the statement.
“The initiative, of voluntary adhesion by the Member States of the United Nations Combination of the United Nations on Climate Change (UNFCC), reinforces Brazil’s commitment to health equity, climate justice and participatory governance,” added the folder.
During the event, the director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Jarbas Barbosa, recalled that the entity has worked with the Member States, at the national and subnational level, to develop health adaptation plans to climate change and investment feasibility studies.
“PAHO is ready to implement the policies mentioned and Belém’s health action plan,” he said. “We will continue committed to advance together and explore innovative situations for common challenges,” added Jarbas.
