Santo Domingo.-Due to the low incidence that Covid-19 continues to have in the country, when yesterday only six patients had been admitted, the Health authorities announced the dismantling of the units that exclusively attended to those infected by the disease.
The director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lama, reported that six units are currently open.
These are, the Simón Striddles hospital, in Azua; Marcelino Vélez Santana, in Santo Domingo; the Hospital Cabral and Báez, in Santiago, as well as paths in the areas of Boca Chica, Puerto Plata and Bonao.
Lama explained that these units, which were enabled to care for patients infected with the Covid-19 virus, are now intended to provide assistance to people with other pathologies or health conditions, such as diabetes, chronic diseases, among others.
“We cannot have hundreds of empty beds with patients who deserve a hospitalization or a procedure,” he indicated, while guaranteeing the provision of health services.
On his side, Minister Daniel Rivera maintained that the cases that are being registered correspond to mild and asymptomatic infections, which do not merit any hospitalization.
Despite the reduction notified by the health authorities, in the bulletin corresponding to this Wednesday, it was observed that the number of available beds, according to that report, has remained unchanged for months.
The minister said that four months after applying the third dose, people can choose to administer a fourth vaccine to strengthen the immune system.

According to Eladio Pérez, Deputy Minister of Collective Health, the daily average of cases in the last five weeks is 20, concentrating in areas such as Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago.
