Carlos Hurtado, manager of Epidemiology of the Departmental Health Service (Sedes), reported that dengue is in low transmission in the department of Santa Cruz. However, the authority recommended not neglecting the cleaning of homes, among other contingency measures that have helped reduce the number of patients per week.
According to Hurtado, so far this year there have been confirmed about 13,000 positive cases and 45 deaths from dengue in Santa Cruz.
What’s more, so far this epidemiological week 15, which is four days, 297 positive cases have been registered, an average of 60 cases per day.
According to the epidemiologist, despite the difficulties and deterioration that the public health system is going through or suffering, the department of Santa Cruz has the lowest fatality rate in the country. “In first place (in fatality rate) is Tarija and then Cochabamba,” Hurtado clarified.
On the other hand, Hurtado indicated that after having visited some municipalities in the integrated north, the dengue situation in these places is worrisome. “Most of the patients hospitalized for dengue are under 10 years of age,” he reported.
For this reason, he reiterated his recommendation on cleaning homes, fumigation and permanent elimination of possible mosquito breeding sites.
