The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received this Saturday at the Miraflores Palace the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley.
During Mottley’s first official visit to Venezuela, they are expected to discuss agreements on energy, agriculture and air transport, among other areas of cooperation.
the prime minister arrived in the country this Saturday and was received by the Foreign Minister of Venezuela Yván Gil, hours later he met with the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, in order to strengthen the unilateral relations between both nations.
In the morning, he visited the National Pantheon in Caracas where he made a floral offering to the Libertado Simón Bolívar.
The meeting between Maduro and Mottley takes place 43 days after the review of the Venezuela-Barbados bilateral agenda, led by the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez. On that occasion, both authorities agreed on the need to strengthen bilateral relations in the areas of energy, agriculture and air connection.
Mottley, who graduated from the London School of Economics with a Law Degree, leads a diplomatic deployment to promote the so-called Bridgetown Initiative, which promotes the reforms of the Bretton Woods institutions in the interest of high- and middle-income countries, but, mainly, small island developing countries have access to financing methods and debt renegotiation.
His voice has become one of the strongest in the Caribbean, raising issues related to climate justice, inequality in covid-19 vaccines and sovereign debt, as well as the vulnerability of small economies. On the other hand, his position in defense of multilateralism stands out by demanding – from various international scenarios – the implementation of moral leadership and respect for nations regardless of their size or resources.
The Barbados delegation is made up of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds; the Ambassador of Barbados to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), David Comissiong; the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Joy Ann Skinner; and the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Alies Jordan.
