"Head of organized crime is not in the favela shack"says Boulos

In front of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the new minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Guilherme Boulos, criticized this Wednesday (29) the Operation Containmentwhich left at least 119 people dead in Rio de Janeiro. "Head of organized crime is not in the favela shack"says Boulos

“I am proud to be part of the president’s government who knows that the head of organized crime in this country is not in a shack in a favela, he is often involved in money laundering in the [Avenida] Faria Lima, as we saw in the Federal Police’s Operation Hidden Carbon”, said Boulos in his inauguration speech at Palácio do Planalto.

At the beginning of his speech, Boulos asked for a minute of silence for “all victims”, including the police and residents of the communities of the Alemão and Penha complex. President Lula did not speak at the event.

Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and State Ministers, such as Fernando Haddad (Finance) and Gleisi Hoffman (Institutional Relations). In the hall, there were hundreds of representatives of social movements.

“President Lula gave me the mission of helping in this final stretch of his third term with the government in the streets”, he stated.

He explained that the proposal is to dialogue not only with those who already agree with all public policies, but also with groups such as delivery people and app drivers.

“We know that policies that change people are not born only in palaces and offices. They are born from the people, from popular territories. They are born from the streets”, he considered.

However, he added that one role will also be to expose “the hypocrisy of those who say they are against the system”. “If they are against the system, why don’t they support our proposal to tax billionaires and bets?”, he asked.

At the end of the speech, he thanked his companions from the social movements, who were “a school of life and struggle”. “They are companions who didn’t have the opportunity to sit on the bench at school, but they taught me many lessons that I didn’t learn from any university professor. They taught me the value of solidarity.”
