The president of INPE, Iván Paredes Yatacosaid he was willing to submit to a polygraph test. But he conditioned his eventual decision on President José Jerí Oré issues a decree ordering itdespite the investigation against him due to an audio broadcast by Fourth Estate in which he allegedly requests a bribe of US$80,000 in exchange for arranging the release of a convicted former police officer.
“That is ordered by the President of the Republic, I am subject to the order, if he orders we will pass all public officials. He is the one who has to order by supreme decree, if there is a supreme decree it will be passed. There is no problem. I do not have any condemnatory sentence. (Couldn’t he voluntarily make himself available?) I repeat again, I cannot dispose of that because that is through a supreme decree,” he said.
It should be remembered that the Lima Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office opened preliminary proceedings against him for alleged collection of bribes in exchange for favoring the release of a convicted inmate. The case broke out after the broadcast of audios in which a voice attributed to Walls negotiates a payment of US$80,000 to favor a former police officer convicted of kidnapping.
In one of the recordings, a person is heard offering even his watch in exchange for a favor.. “I’m going to deposit your 500 dollars tomorrow… I’m going to give you my watch, it costs 800,” you hear. This phrase would have been part of an alleged initial delivery of the bribe. Although the investigations are still ongoing, the head of the INPE has denied that the recorded voice is his.
“I categorically deny that that is my voice (…) Because I have never talked about that with the lady, never and I flatly deny it (…) This was more than six years ago, when I was a private lawyer, not as they try to say when I am a public official,” he declared via RPP.
Now, to this is added that the Government decided to exclude Walls of the first phase of confidence control through polygraph, a measure that will be applied to operational personnel who work directly with inmates.
