Santo Domingo,- The director of Transit and Land Transportation reported that for next year ten corridors will be enabled, seven of which will be in the greater Santo Domingo and the remaining three in the province of Santiago.
Hugo Beras said that with the seven corridors that will be enabled in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo, the ten that were planned will be completed, three of which are already working with excellent results.
Beras added that 80 percent of the users of the corridors of Núñez de Cáceres, Winston Churchill, and Lincoln avenues are satisfied with the service they are offering.
Interviewed by Héctor Herrera Cabral in the D`AGENDA program that is broadcast every Sunday by Telesistema Canal 11, and TV Quisqueya for the United States, the high-ranking official of the transportation sector described passenger transportation in the so-called “flying buses” as obsolete and dilapidated concho cars, which is being transformed by the government of President Luis Abinader, and has already started with the three corridors mentioned above.
“Anyone who rides this air-conditioned service, with effectiveness, safety, is more than satisfied and hoping that the cycle can be completed, which is the work that we are going to do in terms of transportation, seven riders are missing in the District and the province of Santo Domingo, and three that are scheduled for Santiago, which will be one of the next to be inaugurated, is the Cibao Airport corridor”, he explained.
He recalled that this province is receiving the largest investment in transportation in its entire history, since the monorail and the cable car are being built, and three corridors will be implemented to create an efficient and modern circuit.
“I dare to point out that in the coming months the Cibao Airport corridor will already be in operation, we are working for before the first quarter of next year, and there the sequence of corridors in Santiago and Santo Domingo will begin, which we have several Points that we are working on, such as Independencia, 27 de Febrero, Carretera Mella, Tiradentes, Jacobo Majluta, Isael Aguiar and John F Kennedy avenues,” he explained.
The president of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation indicated that all these runners, some of them are at 80% of the survey.
“In 2023 that is the task that I have, to have them ready, because in 2024, in the first four-month period, it is planned to conclude Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro that goes to Los Alcarrizos, and taking into account that there is a Cable car that comes into operation at the end of this year, and 60 days later it would already be in operation”, he emphasized.
He said that when all these operating systems, when they are all operating, a person will be able to ride the Cable Car, the Metro and the Corridors, all for 35 pesos.
Hugo Beras admits that traffic congestion in the greater Santo Domingo is unbearable and unsustainable
Intrant director Hugo Beras defined the congestion of vehicular traffic in Greater Santo Domingo as unbearable and unsustainable.
“It is unbearable, and unsustainable, that is the truth, here we are not going to analyze the problem, especially me and the government, as well as the President of the Republic, what we are demanding are solutions, because the problem, of one way or another, we all know it”, acknowledged the transport sector official.
He said that among the solutions that are being implemented and executed is the collective transport system that is being carried out on the basis of a macro plan of various studies that have been carried out, one of which was prepared by the Inter-American Development Bank.
“The District and greater Santo Domingo are the most congested areas in terms of traffic in the Dominican Republic, Santiago has serious problems, San Francisco, and San Cristóbal have, but the dark red problem is in the capital, the city is more than studied”, insisted the director of the Intrant.
I add that, “on the subject of traffic, these days people have been able to see many people who have the Intrant uniform who are doing the gauging to update the studies that have been done on the road changes, the traffic light network, of everything that has to do with the flow of traffic in the city”.
“Because the city is being micro-simulated, why is it being done that way, although there is a technical study, so that, in the coming months, I am speaking in a short time, all the measures that are going to be taken, the road changes that must be completed, the road pairs that are changed with avenues in one direction, if it has to be done, how it is going to be done and the direction where it has to be done,” he explained.
He pointed out that the issue of regularization of parking spaces, the traffic light plan and the traffic light network of the District and greater Santo Domingo should also be taken into account.
He regretted that in the capital there is no network of intelligent traffic lights, but he guaranteed that this will be implemented now, because upon his arrival at the Intrant, President Luis Abinader gave him instructions to check this issue, they have already carried out the survey of the District and the province of Santo Domingo, and the bidding will soon take place.
In another order, Hugo Beras reported that he met with Jean Luis Rodríguez who is directing RD Vial, which manages the highways, and they are finishing a process so that, in January, or before Easter, they declare one of the highways of the Republic The Dominican Republic as the safest, which will be the eastern highway from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana, where the Intrant already has all the points where accidents occur.
He argued that said plan will have strong supervision by the Digestett with units that people will be able to see their presence, and good signage.
