The federal government, through the Ministry of the Interior (SG), has already transferred to the Permanent Commission the appointment of former prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero as Mexican ambassador to Great Britain, which will not be approved by fast track, as initially speculated, but will go through the ordinary procedure in committees.
Yesterday, the document sent a day earlier by the head of SG, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to the president of the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies, Kenia López Rabadán (PAN), was released, in which the agreement is sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Gertz to occupy said position.
Although at the beginning of this month the president of the Political Coordination Board of San Lázaro, Ricardo Monreal (Morena), announced that Gertz’s appointment could occur in today’s same session of the Permanente, yesterday he indicated that it will not happen.
The documentation “was received yesterday (Monday) and has already been submitted to the (Political and International Affairs) commission. It is likely that they will meet next Thursday. There will be no fast track; The entire ordinary procedure will be taken care of,” the legislator stressed at a press conference.
Separately, López Rabadán confirmed receipt of the document requesting the ratification of Gertz Manero, and explained: “today we will report on this request from the President and we will turn it over, as established by our legal order, to the first commission, which is Political and International Affairs, to resolve” the issue, and it will probably be discussed on Monday in the last session of the Permanent.
–Should Gertz appear before the first commission?
–Strictly speaking, it is the decision of the first commission. It is parliamentary practice that when the federal Executive sends a proposal like this, the commission makes an appointment to appear, but there is no express article where there is an obligation” for that, he pointed out.
Previously, the coordinator of the PT, Reginaldo Sandoval, stated that Gertz’s appointment could be made today.
“We agree that it is fast track, because we do require that that embassy not be empty. “Mexico must be represented throughout the world so that a precise message of unity and what our nation is doing reaches,” he asserted.
