The National District Prosecutor’s Office managed to get a court to impose 30 years in prison against Juan Miguel Valdez Alcántara, found guilty of killing a 19-year-old girl by setting her on fire in a hotel.

According to the indictment file, the crime It happened on the afternoon of October 28, 2021, in a hotel located in the Manganagua sector.

The instance establishes that the victim Estefani Yuli Camilo and the man convicted today occupied a room in the establishment and when leaving the man took a plastic container containing gasoline and sprayed it. He then set her on fire by throwing a match at her.

He adds that a hotel employee helped the victim, taking her to a shower, while the convicted man tried to flee the scene, but was detained by hotel staff until the arrival of the National Emergency System 9-1-1 and the National Police.

The woman presented second and third degree burns in 50% of the body surface, which caused her death.

The conduct of Juan Miguel Valdez Alcántara was described by the Public Ministry as torture and barbarism, murder and aggravated domestic violence, crimes provided for and punished in articles 295, 296, 297, 298, 302, 303-4, 304 (paragraphs 7 and 10), 309-2 and 309-3 (letter B) of the Dominican Penal Code, modified by Law 24-97, on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
