Interviewed after an event to celebrate the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States, Ambassador Ken Salazar announced that next January 7 will be his last day as a diplomat, that is, 13 days before the new president of that country takes office. country.
He said that Ronald Johnson has held key positions in the Western Hemisphere and in other Latin American countries, so he trusted that his nomination by President Donald Trump will be for the good of the relationship between Mexico and the United States.
“Actually, he (Johnson) has had a lot of experience. He has been a servant, a servant in the Army and in the jobs he has had, so I wish him the best, because his success as an ambassador, that he continues to do good work, will be for the benefit of the United States, the benefit of Mexico and for the people of the two nations,” he expressed.
Ambassador Ken Salazar explained that although Ronald Johnson has already been nominated by the incoming president, Donald Trump, he still needs to be ratified by the Senate of that country.
“That process can take a long time, sometimes it takes a year, six months, I don’t know. I hope they ratify it soon so that an ambassador arrives here in Mexico,” he noted.
Ken Salazar’s words to Ronald Johnson come a few hours after this Wednesday he claimed not to know his successor.
Asked at the end of a ceremony at the Templo Mayor Museum about whether he considers that Johnson’s profile is appropriate to strengthen diplomatic relations between the Trump governments and President Claudia Sheinbaum, Salazar responded:
“I don’t know him and I don’t want to comment. What I want is the success of the United States and Mexico. And I’m going to wait for that to happen, but I don’t know. But I will always be willing to help in any way I can.”
