A man sued his stepson after divorcing his mother, asking him for financial compensation for having raised him. The unusual event occurred in China in Chongqing Municipality and the whole country went wild with the news.

The man with the last name Tang went to court with his ex-stepson, Liu, since having separated from his mother demands 35,200 yuan (approximately $5,285). After the complaint, he launched a strange justification: “It is what I spent in the 12 years that I kept it”.

Three months after separating from Liu’s mother, Tang asks the court for the 22-year-old boy to pay him compensation for the money he spent on him since 2009, when he began his relationship with his mother.

This unusual request of the man sparked outrage throughout the Chinese people when the video of the trial went viral on Twitter and the comments against the Tang were not long in coming. Many assured that it is a way to take revenge on his ex-partner through his son.

“Now Tang wants his money back, this sounds more like a fit of resentment after his marriage failed,” one Twitter user said.

On the other hand, everyone agreed that Tang’s request was out of place, and they assured that he never felt Liu as a son: “Even after raising the boy for 10 years, It seems that he never treated him like a son. That’s very sad,” they said.

Despite the bad moment that Liu and his mother must have experienced before the selfish act of his ex-stepfather, the trial concluded in their favor. The Chongqing local court rejected Tang’s request ensuring that the expenses that he made during those years for Liu were made voluntarily.

“Tang decided to support Liu, despite knowing that he had no legal responsibility to pay for his university studies, since Liu had reached the age of 18,” said the court, leaving behind this bad episode for the family.
