A young man detained in the “little jail” of the Palace of Justice, in Ciudad Nueva, in the National District, died last Sunday while awaiting transfer to the San Pedro de Macorís correction and rehabilitation center.
The deceased is Alexander Perez Santanaof 25 years and whose brothers reported that he had tuberculosis and several broken ribs.
It had been dictated three months of preventive detention on the 20th of this month for being accused of robbery and sexual crimes.
Two of his brothers who were waiting to give him information at the Palace of Justice reported that Alexander was admitted before coercion was imposed on him in the Moscoso Puello hospital and that without being recovered he was transferred to the “little jail“.
Rafael, one of the brothers, said that “they wanted to do something to Alexander.” evil“because he was not in condition of being imprisoned and that there were no complainants either.
He maintained that he took him daily to the “little jail” the medications and that yesterday, Sunday, he was informed that he had died.
According to his family, Alexander also had several broken ribs because in another center prison, where he was being held for another charge, other prisoners beat him.
Prosecutor’s Office investigates
The National District Prosecutor’s Office reported in a press release that it is investigating the circumstances under which the death of the deprived of freedom
He added that, according to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), Perez Santana suffered from chronic diseases that led to his death.
