“Hazte Eco” from Banco Popular receives recognition

“Hazte Eco» del Banco Popular recibe reconocimiento

Spain – The Corresponsables Foundation recognized the “Hazte Eco” program and portfolio of green products and services of Banco Popular Dominicano, which was a finalist in the “Large Company” category, during the XIII edition of the Corresponsables Awards, considering it a comprehensive and innovative proposal that aligns business strategies with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

This is the second consecutive year that a Banco Popular initiative has been recognized in this international forum, which rewards the best practices in sustainability and social and environmental commitment in institutions in the Spanish-speaking world, both public and private organizations as well as non-profit institutions.

The event, which was held at IESE’s Aula Magna, Barcelona, ​​Spain, was attended by Mrs. Andrea Cordero, representing Popular, who received the award on behalf of the financial organization.

“Go Eco” is a dual-purpose initiative aimed at reducing and mitigating the emissions of the bank’s own operation and, at the same time, promoting a portfolio of green products, a pioneer in the market, that facilitates the access of customers to sustainable financing options to reduce the impact of their carbon footprint.

Expansion of “Hazte Eco”

Popular recently expanded its “Hazte Eco” green portfolio with the Extrahogar Eco and ExtraEco revolving loans and the HipotEco mortgage loan, three new financing solutions with preferential rates to purchase energy-efficient products, carry out sustainable renovations at home or buy A home with a sustainability seal.

In addition, to encourage a more sustainable life, the bank held its first “Hazte Eco” Fair in more than 20 stores, with discounts of up to 15%, 25% and 35%​depending on the product category, and with the option to finance solar panels, low-consumption appliances, bicycles, skateboards and electric motorcycles, among others, with two points less than the regular rates.

For this edition of the Corresponsables Awards, 814 applications were received from companies and organizations from all economic sectors, with operations in Spain and in 15 other Ibero-American countries, based on sustainability initiatives, social responsibility and compliance with the SDGs.

This year’s version broke a record with more than 45,000 people attending (via streaming and face-to-face).
