Mexico City, Mexico.- Leoni Torres and Haydée Milanés, two of the most popular Cuban interpreters, came together to honor Pablo Milanes with the song “To Live”.
In a video shared by Torres On his social networks, you can see how Haydée begins to cry excitedly when she hears him sing during a rehearsal.
“A moment of rehearsal where something really nice and spontaneous happened. Thank you Haydée Milanés for your special voice and for sharing your emotions with us,” Torres said, posting a fragment of the video.
Milanés, who will offer a concert in Miami on March 10, responded to this message:
“I couldn’t help but be moved when I heard you sing with your beautiful voice this song that I sang with my father. There were many emotions. It was nice. It is the magic of music and life. Thank you for your comforting hug, thank you for the beautiful tribute to my father, thank you for the invitation to sing with you, a dream that I was finally able to fulfill! I admire you so much!” she expressed.
This song and others by his father will be performed at his concert in Florida, as a tribute to one of the most international Cuban musicians.
Leoni, for his part, has declared himself a great admirer of Pablo several times and has said that singing with him was a dream that he was able to materialize in 2015.
At the end of last year when Milanés died, Torres wrote on his networks that he thanked God for the opportunity to have met him and learned from him.
forever paul
On November 22, Pablo Milanes died at the age of 79 in a hospital in Madrid, where he was hospitalized due to his multiple health problems. But when death surprised him, his legacy was already written.
Milanés, founder of Nueva Trova together with Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola, as well as an excellent musician, was one of the main promoters of the Cuban regime during the first decades of the Revolution.
Pablo was also a reference among the main voices of the Latin American leftist movement that saw a paradise in the government of the island.
As proof of his political commitment, several songs survive in Pablo’s valuable work that were hymns in acts of government propaganda.
However, over the years the author of “Yolanda” gave a twist to his speech about the government of the island. Since the 90s you can find critical statements by the musician and where he pointed out that the system had failed. Time passed and Pablo’s positions were less lukewarm. One of his most publicized statements occurred after July 11, 2021 when he described the government as “repressive.”
