MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban regime held a marathon this Saturday morning in salute to the 62nd anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and in support of the Family Code, which will be voted on in a popular referendum this Sunday.

The race started from the March 13 Park, located in front of the former Presidential Palace, today the Museum of the Revolution.

The event was chaired by Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, former member of Red Avispa and National Coordinator of the CDRs. Elements of various organizations and institutions controlled by the island’s regime, such as the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), were also in the activity.

The winners of the marathon were awarded a book on the history of the CDRs and a poster of the late dictator Fidel Castro.

During the last weeks, the Cuban regime has promoted a campaign in favor of the Yes in the referendum of the Family Code.

This week, the ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel He has referred on several occasions to the important vote and has called on the population to vote in favor of the promoted bill.

Last Wednesday, Díaz-Canel indicated on social networks that the eventual approval of the Code would fill a legal vacuum that will benefit thousands of people on the Island.

“The Family Code is the hope of thousands of people marked by painful stories of exclusion and silence. Human beings who have suffered and suffer from the gaps in our laws. On September 25, I vote Yes. For them and for Cuba,” the president wrote on his Twitter account.

This Friday also circulated images of a meeting of Díaz-Canel himself with representatives of various sectors related to the ruling party.

At the event, held at the Palace of the Revolution, Raúl Castro’s successor addressed several issues about the bill, which he described as “a monumental work.”

“We are on the eve of participating in a civic act of enormous responsibility, which we will attend with every right, but also with a sense of duty and civic and social responsibility,” said the president in one of his speeches.
