Havana is the province with the largest number of companies with losses in Cuba; Mayabeque, Ciego and the Island among the most stable

The Cuba business system closed Julio with 2,737 registered entities, of which more than half (55.1 %) have more than 20 years of founded. Almost two thirds (64.8 %) classify as large companies, according to data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (Onei).

The report details that 291 companies (10.6 % of the total) reported losses in that monthwhile 62.7 % reached utilities before taxes of up to 50 million pesos.

Where are losses concentrated?

Havana headed the list with 51 companies in red numbers. They followed Camagüey (35) and Holguín (26).

In contrast, Mayabeque, Ciego de Ávila and the island of Youth only registered 6 each.

Utilities scale

Onei’s analysis shows that profits in the Business System They are mostly modest:

22.7 % of the companies obtained between 8 and 50 million pesos.

18.6 %, between 1 and 5 million.

14.1 %, less than 1 million.

Although the report highlights the longevity and weight of large companies in the economic landscape, it also reflects that Almost 3 out of 10 entities had reduced profits.

This shows the challenges in efficiency and profitability in the midst of a context marked by the prolonged economic crisis of the country.
