Numerous spaces dedicated to cinema, books, music and performing arts will fill this western Cuban city with noble and true culture as the XIV Havana Biennial begins here today, an institutional source assured.
Osbel Marrero, territorial director of culture, expressed at a press conference that this second Matanzas version, which maintains the name of Ríos Intermitentes from its predecessor in 2019, has a large number of works by young artists, demonstrating the strength of the art schools in the country.
“We developed the Biennial at a time when both the external and internal enemies have tried to boycott it, but I assure you that it will be a successful event, which has had the support of the main authorities of the province,” emphasized the manager.
He stressed that April is a month full of important anniversaries such as those of the Union of Young Communists, the José Martí Pioneers Organization, the victory against an invading mercenary force in Playa Girón, and the preparations to celebrate May 1, the International Day of Workers.
“To all these ephemeris we must add the celebration on the 29th and 30th of the V Edition of Matanzas Jazz, therefore, we have incorporated all these celebrations into the Rios Intermitentes program conceived for the entire fourth month of the year,” he commented.
This Friday’s day began with the presentation in the morning of the American Circus Varieties company in the central Parque de la Libertad, while the opening night gala will take place in the René Fraga Park, under the artistic direction of the actor and director Yadiel Durán Theater.
A Bohemian Night in the Colonial Patio, followed by a load of troubadours and singers at the headquarters of the branch of the Association of Artisan Artists, will complete the agenda of the first day of Rios Intermitentes.
