Departure. Harold Forsyth, permanent representative of Peru to the Organization of American States (OAS), he left his duties in that position after the publication of Supreme Resolution No. 005-2023-RE, published this Monday, January 9 in the legal regulations bulletin of the official newspaper El Peruano. Likewise, the resolution announcing the departure of Manuel Rodríguez Cuadros as national representative in the UN.
It is so that the president Dina Boluarte accepted the “irrevocable resignation” presented by Harold Forsyth due to the coup attempt by Pedro Castillo. This forced him to abandon his functions in accordance with article 69 of the Law No. 28091.
The Peruvian diplomat, who was appointed to this position during the stay of Guido Bellido as president of the Council of Ministers, he remained in office for 17 months.
“I cannot, for moral and professional reasons, have any connection with a regime that works based on decrees,” held on December 7 in conversation with The Republic.
Prior to his time at the OAS, Forsyth served as permanent representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (ONUAA). Likewise, he was national consul in countries such as USAChina, Japan, Colombia and Italy.
In addition, the 71-year-old diplomat was a congressman during the period 1995-2000 and served as vice minister of External relationships in 2006.
Permanent Council meeting
After the message to the nation of Pedro Castillo made on December 7in which he announced the closure of the CongressForsyth recounted that, while this was happening, he was in the middle of a meeting of the Permanent Council.
Given this news, he decided to expose the president, who is now being held in the Barbadillo prison:
“A few minutes after the message spread by Pedro Castillo was issued, I received a WhatsApp from a person. Since we were in the middle of the Permanent Council, I took the floor to denounce what had happened”, revealed.
