Uruguay defeated Colombia 3-2 at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo for the eleventh date of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, in a match that was more fought than showy, and in which errors took their toll on the Tricolor.
Colombia went ahead on the scoreboard at 31 minutes of the first half with a great goal from a free kick, the work of Juan Fernando Quintero, who counted on the poor positioning of goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
Although the emotion reached its limit with Quinterito’s goal, in the second half the game was at a different price, and Uruguay appealed to history to come back against a Colombia that suffered a very unfortunate 45 minutes.

At minute 57, Uruguay tied thanks to an own goal by Davinson Sánchezwho crossed his right leg after a cross from the left side by Marcelo Saracchi.
Three minutes later, Rodrigo Aguirre finished a very good collective play for Uruguay and scored 2-1 partial, thus generating despair in Colombia, from the bench to the field.
With Yerry Mina as a forward in the last minutes of the game, Colombia threw some crosses into the Uruguay area, and after one of these came the partial tie thanks to Carlos Andrés Gómez’s goal at 90+6′.
Worse once the match resumed, after the VAR review, Uruguay finished the 3-2 with a goal from Manuel Ugartewho took advantage of a backward pass, and at 90+11′ he sentenced the 3-2 in favor of the Charrúas.
