The Police destroyed a large part of machinery in operations against illegal mining in San Roque and Remedios, Antioquia.
In coordinated operations against illicit exploitation of mineralsthe Directorate of Carabineros and Environmental Protection of the National Police intervened and destroyed illegal mining production units in the municipalities of San Roque and Remedios (Antioquia)significantly affecting the criminal structures that operate in this area.

The actions took place simultaneously. One of them was carried out in the Guacas Arriba sidewalkjurisdiction of San Roque, where the authorities managed to intervene four production units. During the procedure they were destroyed and rendered useless. four diver-type dredgers and eight motor pumpsequipment used to illegally extract minerals from the region’s water sources.
Strong operations against illegal mining
In parallel, in the Otu village of the municipality of Remediosa new intervention allowed the impact of two additional production unitswith the destruction of six diver-type dredgers and twelve motor pumps. These operations reinforce the institutional presence and territorial control in this subregion of the department of Antioquia.

He General Carlos Germán Oviedo Lampreadirector of Carabineros and Environmental Protection of the Police, highlighted the economic impact of the procedures.
“These actions represent a significant economic impact to structures dedicated to illegal mining, with seized and unused elements valued at approximately $226 million pesosweakening its logistical and operational capacity to continue developing this illicit activity,” he said.
The officer noted that the illegal mining It is one of the activities that generates the greatest environmental damage in the country, causing serious damage to ecosystems, pollution of water sources and the destruction of the vegetation layerdue to the use of heavy machinery and toxic substances such as mercury.
With these interventions, the Police seek to contribute directly to the protection of natural resources and the ecological heritage of northeast Antioquia.
The operations were carried out under the protection of the Law 1801 of 2016 of the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence. The actions were made available to the Police inspections of the corresponding municipalities, guaranteeing due process.
