Efraín Alegre, president of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), said that the attack suffered by Pecci turned out to be a very strong blow to the country.
“It is not an isolated incident. We see how organized crime goes from the phase of controlling institutions such as the Public Ministry, the Judiciary and Congress, to the stage of violence in the face of investigations”, he commented.
He described Pecci as one of the few prosecutors who dared to investigate with courage and bravery. And since they couldn’t buy it, they murdered it.
“This is serious because we cannot lose the context. I am not going to get tired of repeating that organized crime is controlling the institutions. We have a National Congress where drug traffickers have more legislators than the political parties themselves,” she questioned.
HORATIO CARTES
At another time, the head of the PLRA stated that Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara cannot leave the country. That is why there is a great contradiction in which we are living and that shows how institutions are co-opted by organized crime.
“Cartes leaves the country and goes to jail. However, in Paraguay, which is the center of his operations in money laundering, smuggling and his links with drug trafficking, he does not have a single trial. So that is the situation and the consequence. He does not have a process in Paraguay, but he cannot leave the country”, he questioned.
He argued that this problem will not be solved by the Americans, Brazilians and Argentines. In other words, only Paraguayans can deal with this situation.
“The Brazilian files clearly say that Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara is the head of transnational organized crime. That is why he cannot leave the country. However, in Paraguay he has total impunity, he has no trial. The judicial authorities of this country have to explain that to me. How is it possible that he cannot leave the country because he will go to jail, but here he does not have a single process, ”he pointed out.
IT’S JUST SPEECH
Abdo Benítez, President of the Republic, announced the investigation of the case and the fight against organized crime. Sandra Quiñónez, state attorney general, spoke in the same vein. In this regard, Alegre stated that it is “pure speeches.”
“The people are not fooled. The day Cartes is processed, we will say that they are doing something. But as long as Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara remains free, without any trial, everything they say will be pure speeches. With facts reality is changed, not with words and speeches. As long as the corrupt have impunity, there is no speech that is worth “, he concluded.
