«I left Nicaragua at dawn on January 16, I went into exile first in Costa Rica, then I decided to leave that country and on February 26 I arrived in Mexico, where I stayed for more than two months to be able to move forward, and on Sunday, May 8, I I handed over to the Immigration authorities, “said Alemán.
Sad, hard and difficult journey
However, being in the United States was not easy for the sister of the prisoner of conscience, since she says that she had to go through hunger, extortion and attempted kidnapping for crime in Mexico.
«During the crossing I had to pay checkpoints; I had little money, sometimes I had to pay 100 dollars wherever I went with my children. There were times when I prayed that no more money would be taken from me », she says.
“In Mexico City I was about to be kidnapped, a group of armed men chased us, but thank God we managed to be safe and avoid the kidnapping,” she recalled.
Despite all the dangers, Hanzi Alemán was able to reach the banks of the Bravo River, near Ciudad Acuña, together with his children. However, they almost drowned after the raft in which they were trying to cross overturned.
“The raft turned over, it sank completely; the water was carrying us, we were drowning, my children began to cry, the youngest asked for help, we thought that we would no longer be able to cross, we were running out of air to save ourselves », he revealed.

After that experience, the sister of Bryan Alemán had to walk for more than 45 minutes before turning herself in to immigration agents. “We had to cross a wall, -it was difficult to cross it, we still have bruises-, then we waited another hour for them to stop us, already in Immigration the treatment was excellent”, she detailed.
Alemán was detained one day along with her children. On Monday, May 9, they were released, but she says that she had no one to receive them, because the cell phone in which she had some contacts was damaged when she crossed the river.
«I was lost for two days in a city, I slept on an iron bench in a terminal and then in another place I slept on the floor with my children, but a person approached me and I told him that I had to communicate with someone so that help me, and that’s how I managed to be safe thank God. I am currently with an aunt », she recounted.
