In the case of ministers to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), of the 104 people who registered in the Judicial Committee, 25 passed. Among those that stand out are Paula María García Villegas Sánchez Cordero, who is the daughter of Olga Sánchez Cordero, Morena deputy and retired minister.
It is also Marisela Morales Ibáñezformer head of the Attorney General’s Office in the government of PAN member Felipe Calderón Hinojosa. It is also Sergio Javier Molinawho voted in the Federal Judiciary Council in favor of delivering to the Senate the lists of people who hold the position of federal magistrates and judges, which implied that the suspension provisions that existed would be disregarded.
In the Evaluation Committee of the Executive Branch, the two women already mentioned stand out for the position of ministers of the Supreme Court, and the PAN member is added to them. Roberto Gil Zuarth; María Estela Ríos Gonzálezformer legal advisor to the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador; Bernardo Batiz Vazquezformer capital prosecutor and current advisor to the Federal Judiciary, and Eduardo Santillán Pérez, former delegation head in Álvaro Obregón and representative of Morena before the IECM.
They are also Mario Bracamontes Gonzálezwho was president of the State Executive Committee (CEE) of Morena and operator of Claudia Sheinbaum in Puebla, as well as Martha Fabiola Larrondo Montesformer representative for Morena in Querétaro.
After publication, the committees must now move on to the second stage, where they will qualify the suitability, that is, they will evaluate the candidates considering their technical knowledge necessary to perform the position they are seeking and that they have distinguished themselves for their “honesty, good reputation public, competence and academic and professional background” during the exercise of their judicial activity. Each Committee placed different percentages on each item.
The last stage will be a process of insaculation or raffle to “adjust” the number of applicants for each position. There will be three candidates for minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) for magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) and for the Disciplinary Court; two more will be for Circuit magistrates and District judges.
The final lists must be sent to each Branch of the Union for “approval”; That is to say, although the committees choose the candidates, it will be the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial who approve or reject the contenders. Afterwards, the final lists with the names of the candidates must be sent to the Senate.
