The reason for losses responds to the participation of liquors in the sales of those businesses. The guild representative said that for a minimarket, these drinks represent between 30% and 40% of their monthly income, while for stores of an average range between 40% and 50%. If the considered ‘subsistence wineries’ are taken into account, that is, the smallest, the figure can reach up to 70%.
“With this we can determine that such a rule harms the poorest sectors. These businesses will be damaged even more because next year in addition to the general elections, we have the municipal ones,” he said.
Repeal of the norm
Given this situation, Daniel Hermoza considered that it is necessary that the ‘dry law’ be repealed, since he indicated that the most affected are merchants and not consumers.
“The norm does not restrict consumption, but the sale, so there are those who have more resources and supply for those days. However, the wineries cannot sell or fall a sanction,” he said.
Similarly, he pointed out that this rule affects tourism, because many take advantage of their stay in the country to try some national drinks such as Pisco, but by restriction they cannot sell them either.
It should be noted that in Congress there are already some voices that raise the repeal of the ‘dry law’ for elections. The initiative would have to be discussed in the next legislature to be applied in the 2026 elections.
