The Ministry of Production (Produce) established the reproductive ban on the hake resource in the maritime area between the northern Peruvian limit and 04° 00’S, starting on Thursday, August 25, for a period of 30 days.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 00279-2022-Produce, published in the official newspaper El Peruano, the rule does not apply to artisanal fishing vessels.

Likewise, the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) monitors and follows up the reproductive process of the hake resource, and must inform and recommend in a timely manner to the Ministry of Production the necessary measures to safeguard the sustainability of the aforementioned resource.

The monitoring, control and surveillance of the vessels is carried out on the basis of the reports of the Satellite Monitoring System for fishing vessels (Sisesat), without prejudice to the control tasks carried out by the General Directorate of Supervision, Control and Sanction of the Viceministerial Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Production in order to ensure compliance with the regulations.

Failure to comply with the provisions of this ministerial resolution is sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. 25977.
