Haitian woman killed at the hands of her brother wanted to progress

The residents of an unnamed Mamey building, located on the main street of the Los Molinos sector in Los Frailes, Santo Domingo Este municipality, Santo Domingo province, heard a struggle last Friday night.

He was a Haitian national who, in the middle of a fight to find an alleged drug that his sister hid from him, took his life with a knife.

This is how the residents of the place narrated it, located at kilometer 13/5 of the marginal Las Américas.

The deceased, Amina Soraya, 23, had just graduated from high school and, like many foreigners, was fighting for a better future in the Dominican Republic.

She wanted to get her brother away from vices and that together they could advance in a country that was giving her the opportunity, when hers is burning in the midst of an economic, social and humanitarian crisis.

“In the apartment there were more people who accompanied the brothers in the lawsuit, but none could prevent him from stabbing her and ending her life,” said a neighbor who requested that her name not be used.

Amina’s boyfriend was present and wanted to intervene to prevent the deathbut received two wounds, one in a shoulder and another in a leg.

The murderer, whose name was not specified, only said “it wasn’t me” while the police placed the handcuffs on him. According to neighbors, he was high on drugs.

The young man entrenched himself for a moment with the white weapon that blinded his sister’s life, before being arrested, the locals said.

Now with the young woman dead and her brother in jail, a third person who lived with them, according to reports, had only stopped by the third-level apartment to collect some suitcases and clean up the blood that remained.
