Madrid Spain.- A sailboat with several Haitians who were trying to reach the United States landed this Saturday afternoon on the coast of Baracoa, in the Cuban province of Guantánamo. .
According to journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza, the Haitians were transferred to the Punta de Maisí camp, where they receive medical attention while the Cuban authorities manage the procedures for their repatriation.
“Haitian migration is common in eastern Cuba from the diversion of boats in Paso de los Vientos on their way to the United States or the Bahamas,” Reyes Mendoza highlighted through the social network. Facebook.
According to user Dianelis Mercader Labañino, a witness to the sailboat’s arrival, the Haitians they lowered sails, dropped anchors and wanted fuel to continue their journey.

During the last year, more than 600 Haitians have reached the Guantanamo coast. Official figures indicate that from 2001 to 2021 a total of 76 boats with more than 4,000 Haitian emigrants arrived in the eastern province of Guantánamo.
Last May, a boat landed on the shores of Caibarién, in the province of Villa Clara, with more than 800 migrants from Haiti, including children and even newborns.
In february this year a precarious boat with 292 Haitians, including 56 minors, who were trying to reach the United States, landed in the province of Ciego de Ávila.
