Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Wednesday (16) that the United States government is inconsistent with establishing additional tariffs for Brazilian products. According to Haddad, the attitude makes no sense to a country that has surplus in relation to another.
“This is the inconsistency that we are trying to reach the American authorities. And we will have to make it worth what Congress has unanimously approved, the law of reciprocity. But Brazilian diplomacy is expert on it, will know how to take the right measures at the right time, after much negotiation,” said the minister.
“I believe the Brazilian government is taking the best possible posture. Consider a historical partner. Understanding that it is a delicate moment in American history, and we have to know how to deal with it. And putting our views, which are totally defensible.”
The rates to which the minister refers were imposed by the government of Donald Trump on all business partners earlier this month. On average, tariffs were 10% for Latin American countries, 20% for Europe and 30% to Asia.
Haddad answered the press after participating in the program Uncertaintyfrom the TV Brazilin which he spoke about income tax reform (IR) and the need for Brazilian society to discuss tax inequality.
Payroll credit
The Finance Minister also spoke again about the possibility of using the payroll loans by the celetist worker, who has a signed portfolio. Launched last month, the worker’s credit offers better interest conditions than the market.
On Tuesday, during an event in Paracambi, Rio Metropolitan Region, the minister had recommended prudence to workers to avoid unnecessary debt. He recalled that the payroll loan is one of the possible resources, but “does not solve all problems.”
“There is no silver bullet that will solve the problem of all people, regardless of its situation. 20 years ago, we thought of the payroll, including private, that did not happen. It happened that of the retiree, and that of the celetist was very shy, because it depended on an agreement between the company and the bank. marketplace cheaper credit. It’s for a particular audience, “said Haddad.
Haddad added that the National Congress also needs to advance on projects that are in process.
“I spoke to the senator [Davi] Alcohubre [presidente do Congresso]which has a law ready to be passed in the Senate. It has already passed the chamber with a large voting margin. And it has been in the Senate for six months. It opens new credit possibilities for those who are not a celetist. But I need the congress, I need the law by supporting what I am imagining. It already has a reasonable time for the Senate to lean over it. It will open a new field of opportunity for those who are entrepreneur and who is informal, “said the minister.
