A new security breach has hit the National Party, which has once again been the target of a cyber attack. On Monday, the group known as ExPresidents managed to access its website, where they left a public threat.
“The party that does not keep its word, used us as a toy and discarded us. This is to show that we are still in,” said the statement, which was captured by the Birmingham Cyber Arms company and reported to the authorities.
Reappearance of cybercriminals threatening the PN
ExPresidents is no stranger to the National Party. In August, the same group had already breached the system with a similar message. On that occasion, the threat included a specific date, “08/13/2024,” anticipating potential actions.
This incident has raised concerns about the stability and protection of the computer systems used by political parties in their digital communication and data management.
The National Party has responded to this latest attack by saying that it is taking preventative measures to mitigate future incidents. The newspaper El Observador, which revealed the incident, reported that representatives of the party are actively working to strengthen their cybersecurity measures. However, the vulnerability has already been exploited using Cross-Site-Scripting, a technique that allows malicious code to be introduced into other browsers, according to Birmingham Cyber Arms, which shows an urgent need for improvements in its computer defences.
Security experts ruled out that the August hack was not a traditional one as such, as neither the database nor the server were directly compromised, suggesting that the action was rather an act of exploiting specific vulnerabilities in the presentation layer of the website, without invading deeper levels.
