Hack to corruption in football

A former director of the television group 21st Century Fox faces 40 years in prison in the United States after being convicted Thursday by a New York court of corruption of South American soccer officials, derived from the scandal ‘Fifagate’. After almost two months of trial in federal court in Brooklyn, Hernán López was found guilty of fraud, laundering and paying bribes to FIFA and South American Confederation (Conmebol) executives, according to a press release from the US court. .

An Argentine marketing company, Full Play, was also convicted on the same charges, but was found to be a corporate entity corrupting officials of the Confederation of North, Central and Caribbean American Football (Concacaf). It was about obtaining the television broadcasting rights for the Copa Libertadores and the friendly and qualifying matches of the national teams of the Americas for international competitions.

“Today’s verdict is like a victory for justice and football fans around the world. The defendants cheated by corrupting football officials, acting for their own greedy interests instead of the interests of the sport,” said the federal prosecutor of the federal jurisdiction of New York, Breon Paz.
