The first directory of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) would be composed of two former workers of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), also by two people who are now part of the Agency Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT), and a position that would be occupied by a person proposed by Senator Javier Corral Jurado, considered one of the parents of the new Legal Framework of Mexico.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) will be the authority that will do hard work in Mexican telecommunications and broadcasting, in matters, for example, as a concessions allocation and regulation of the radio spectrum.
The new law on telecommunications and broadcasting (LMTR) establishes that the CRT is made up of its directory by a full of five commissioners, all at the proposal of President Claudia Sheinbaum, as head of the Executive Power, and its ratification must first pass through the Senate of the Republic, where Sheinbaum’s political allies have 68% of the votes to approve or den candidacies
The candidates that the federal government values to direct the CRT are:
- Jorge Luis Pérez Hernández
- Norma Solano Rodríguez
- Álvaro Guzmán
- Tanía Villa
The engineer Jorge Luis Pérez Hernández is the current head of the ATDT National Digital Infrastructure Coordination Unit. In the past he was the Interim Executive Director of Infotec.
The lawyer Norma Solano Rodríguez is currently the National Digital Transformation Coordinator in ATDT. He was previously the General Director of Legal Affairs and Regulations of the Digital Public Innovation Agency (ADIP) of Mexico City.
Álvaro Guzmán Gutiérrez, with a master’s degree in Law for UNAM, had his latest work at the Federal Telecommunications Institute, as head of the Concessions and Services Unit, one of the most relevant areas in the regulator.
Tania Villa Trapala, Telematics Engineer for ITAM, left her work as general director of spectrum planning in the IFT, to join the ATDT before anyone else.
It is not clear who could be proposed by Senator Corral to occupy a place in the CRT, although sources cite that an ex -regulator could be the candidate.
Álvaro Guzmán and Tania Villa have broad recognition in the telecommunications industry, after a decade work in that industry.
President Claudia Sheinbaum would have scheduled in the week of September 15 to send to the Senate her list of full candidates of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
The team of Senator Javier Corral and candidates were contacted via electronics to confirm the information, although, for the moment, they were not immediately available.
In addition to the four people valued for the first Plenary of the CRT, it was also known that Adriana Elena Cruz would go to asymmetric regulation vigilance; Miguel Monroy to sanctions. Pablo Vanegas, to Promotion of Infrastructure and Ricardo Castañeda to Government Infrastructure, while Marisol Nava goes to tenders. Paula Ortega, to the legal and Mercedes Olivares, to the audience area.
