From next July 12 to 14 it will be in Mexico the director general of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Guy Rayder, who will conclude a tour of various Latin American countries in our country.
During his stay in Mexico, he will hold meetings with various actors from the world of work, including the head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), Luisa Maria Mayoras well as with representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations.
Among the activities that Ryder will carry out in Mexico is also the unveiling of the new offices for Mexico and Cuba of the ILO.
It should be noted that Guy Ryder was elected as the tenth CEO of the ILO and began his term in October 2012 and after ten years in this role, his term will end in October of this year. His last official visit to the country took place in February 2019.
Mexico has ratified 78 conventions adopted by the ILO, of which 67 are in force. In the area of fundamental rights, our country has ratified six conventions on forced labor, freedom of association and protection of the right to organize, equal pay, abolition of forced labor, discrimination and the worst forms of child labor.
Our country has had important changes in labor matters, not only the reform in the matter, which have been accompanied by ratifications such as the Convention, 190on violence and harassment ratified on July 6, 2022.
Convention 189, on domestic workers on July 3, 2020, and Convention 98 on the right to organize and collective bargaining, ratified on November 23, 2018, are also added.
