Gustavo Petro receives credentials as Ortega's new ambassador

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, received this Wednesday, July 11, the credentials of the new Nicaraguan ambassador, Miracle of Carmen Urbina Rocha.

Ortega’s new diplomat in the coffee-growing country, and who was the counselor minister in that diplomatic post since December 21, 2022, was appointed by the Nicaraguan government since May 10.

Before this new position, Urbina Rocha was Minister Counselor with Consular Functions of the Nicaraguan Embassy in Spain from September 2016 to January of this year; she was also chargé d’affaires at the diplomatic headquarters in Guatemala.

The receipt of the credentials of the new Nicaraguan ambassador in Colombia, occurs in a context where the ambassador of the Colombian country in Nicaragua, Leon Fredy Munoz, He is criticized for his participation in a march for the 44th anniversary of the seizure of the Fortín de Acosasco, in León, a political activity promoted by the Ortega and Murillo administration.

It had been known that the participation of the Colombian diplomat in the Sandinista march “did not go down well in the San Carlos Palace”, so the matter did not remain a “simple call for attention”, but that León Fredy Muñoz will be investigated by his performances.

With the arrival of Milagro Urbina Rocha at the embassy of the dictator Daniel Ortega in Colombia, the former Nicaraguan ambassador to the OAS, Aturo McFields, told Article 66 that “probably, upon receiving the new Nicaraguan ambassador (…), Gustavo Petro is trying to reduce the pressure or tension in the relationship he maintains with Nicaragua, in the face of an eventual change of ambassador.”

«That is a way of saying: “I withdraw an ambassador, but in the meantime I receive your ambassador —from Nicaragua— and I show you that I want to have good relations”, which can be a message for Ortega, because it happens that he Just one day after the scandal with the Colombian ambassador in Managua,” he stressed.

On several occasions, the Colombian government has criticized the actions of the Daniel Ortega regime against the Nicaraguan people, calling on them to cease the repression and to release the political prisoners.
